Brace yourself…this season everything is getting BIG!
More is more this party season! Think luxury and shiny. From reflective detailing such as sequins to reflective materials and colours. All manner of golds through to silvers, and bling a plenty in accessories. Here is our rundown…
Fabric – velvet and leather
Velvet has been around for some time, but for the party season you will find a variety of lengths and shapes of dresses and tops. Ensure that the fabric skims but not clings, and be mindful of where you will be wearing it as it is a heavy fabric and could make you hot. For dresses why not invest in a corselette to help the fabric follow your silhouette.
Gorgeous buttery leathers can be found in all colours. How about a racing car green, or inky blue instead of black to jazz up your neutrals. Waterfall lapels or biker styles can add interest to your look.
Colour – Brown is the new black!
Tan, caramel or chocolate? Darker and olive skin tones can rock tan and chocolate hues well, while paler and mid skin tones suit the caramels more. Not a fan? How about a tan bag, belt or shoes as a nod to the trend. Suede versions also tick off the boho trend!
Detail – sequins and feathers
If you are drawn to detail like a moth to a flame, then you will love this season! Consider matching the size of sequins to your frame e.g smaller frame = smaller sequins to keep you in proportion. Feather details give a feminine edge and a reminder of the Hollywood Golden era. Become a femme fatale!
Look – reflective
If the full on outfit bling is not for you then consider jewellery or a reflective bag to make you sparkle. Large earrings have been big for a while thanks to the 80’s trend. A set of droppers or hoops, a statement necklace or sequin clutch bag are just as stunning.
Style – Slip dress
This is one of the 90’s trends that is moving us on from the recent 80’s revival. A favourite with Jennifer Aniston and All Saints back in the day, it is most flattering on straight bodies with few curves as it is intended to fall straight down. Shoestring strap tops with belted trousers (think Victoria Beckham) are a good alternative for the 90’s vibe.
Trend – Boho / prairie
Embroidered roses, tie fronts and tiered styles are everywhere and are a great alternative to formal eveningwear. Pair with a classic jacket and heels or wedges to take you from daytime to evening. Keeping the trend to one item will avoid the chance of looking like a cowgirl!
Print – Animal prints
(Leopard and snake mainly) are huge right now. Keeping it simple with black or metallic accessories will ensure that the focus is on that print, and bring out your wild side.
Coverups – Oversized wraps
These are a great investment, easy to wear and pair with a belt to keep in place. Traditional plaids in soft neutral colours look stylish and are great for any time of day or night.
Jewellery – Brooches
No longer just for older ladies, these are an alternative to your usual necklace or earring options. Add a talking point to your outfit with something quirky.
Something different - Modesty dressing
Recent shows have seen the tide turn in favour of covering up with higher necklines and lower hemlines. In this day and age this trend can be seen as a refreshing change. You don’t need to show it all to be stylish.
Wishing you all an amazing Christmas and New Year,
